Tokyo Override is a Japanese original net animation (ONA) from Netflix, released in November 2024. Yusuke Fukada and Veerapatra Jinanavin directed and produced the series. Motorcycle makers Yamaha and Honda contributed to the project over its 3.5-year production. World designer Laura Cechanowicz led the worldbuilding phase, with Joshua Dawson serving as world-building architect.
The story is set in a near-future Tokyo that has been technologically optimized. Kai, a lonely young hacker, gets involved with Suma Garage—a group of underground couriers who make deliveries for people in need. Through this work, she discovers parts of the city hidden beneath its polished surface, where drugs, crime, and corruption still operate. As Kai and the couriers dig deeper, they find signs of a larger conspiracy and work to expose the truth behind Tokyo's seemingly perfect system.
The main characters include Kai Koguma (voiced by Ai Fairouz in Japanese, Maya Aoki Tuttle in English), a young hacker from the West District; Hugo (Ryota Takeuchi, Talon Warburton), a Suma Garage courier; Spoke (Tomoaki Maeno, Kaiji Tang), another courier; Watari (Mariya Ise, Shelby Young), a hacker for the garage; Yukio (Shigeru Chiba, Keythe Farley); Ayumi (Yu Serizawa, Lisa Kay Jennings); Yoshiaki Kageyama (Hochu Otsuka, Kiff VandenHeuvel), a former police detective now a narcotics investigator for the Ministry of Health; Yasumoto (Miyu Irino, Clifford Chapin), an investigator under Kageyama; Ieuji (Yuhko Kaida, Erica Lindbeck); Amarin Lu (Sayaka Senbongi, Aryn Rozelle); and Mikuriya (Yutaka Aoyama, Feodor Chin).
The six-episode series launched on Netflix on November 21, 2024. The ending theme is "Tokyo Minority" by Yu Serizawa. An insert song, "Cryptogram" by Yu Serizawa, Melody Chubak, and Yonca, appears in the fourth episode.
