DT Eightron is a 26-episode anime series produced by Sunrise and Fuji TV, directed by Tetsurō Amino, with series scripts by Hideki Kakinuma, character designs by Yoshi Ichida and Ryō Tanaka, mechanical designs by Junya Ishigaki and Shinobu Tsuneki, and music by Hiroyuki Namba. In 1999, it was adapted into a manga series written and illustrated by Iderou Hinoki. The series is notable for its post-apocalyptic setting and themes of rebellion against a controlling data program.

Lore & Background
The story is set in the year 2187 on Earth, where global warming has forced humanity to live in domed cities. War and unstable land conditions cause the domes to lose contact with each other. Shu, a teenage boy from the dome Datania, dreams of seeing the ocean and escapes with friends, aided by rebels called the Returners. They seek the dome Amaroute, believed to be a better place, but discover it is similarly controlled by Zero, a data program, with a clone of Shu assisting him.
Reader's Guide
The series explores themes of freedom, emotion, and resistance against a system that suppresses human instinct. The Returners fight Zero, who seeks a special substance called DT inside humans. Shu learns that Datania and Amaroute were built to create a rocket for Zero to escape a global flood caused by a failing generator. After Amaroute falls, Shu and his friends return to Datania to defeat Zero and convert the rocket into an ark. A technical fault delays launch, and the tidal wave strikes before the ark is seen released, leaving the fate of the characters uncertain. Only Fear, a spy who later joins the Returners, is confirmed to survive.
